Walking in to Shear Excellence is like entering an art gallery. It has to be one of the best looking salons I've seen in a long time. Lisa Monson, the owner, is surely the reason behind this unique salon/spa experience.
She fell in love with Lloyd Platt, a well known contemporary artist and now has quite a few of his oil paintings on the walls of her extraordinary salon. In fact, she has such an eye for aesthetics of a space that she used stand alone black sinks as a form of art.
After being in Salt Lake City's 15th and 15th neighborhood for 22 years, Lisa decided she wanted to own her building, So, she bought an old house just off 11th East and 14th South and completely gutted it out and re-built it from the ground up. She didn't have any problem rolling up her sleeves and doing construction work herself with a little help from her friends. She likes the independence of owning her own building and avoids the insecurity she felt as a tenant.
Lisa is a great example of why Utah's business community is thriving. In 2009, Utah ranked first for Economic Dynamism in the Kaufman Foundation New Economic Index. It also ranks first for inventive patents and third for fastest-growing firms. Neighborhood businesses like Shear Excellence are surely contributing to that success rate.
What Lisa is most known for in business is complete trust. Lisa has had some of her team on staff for 17 years. It's important to her to have employees who share experience, knowledge and make a good living in the process. At the same time, she makes sure the pricing models used for various services are competitive.
